Welcome to my home page. I am an associate professor at the University of British Columbia.

I am currently teaching Physics 200
, "Relativity and Quanta" (Fall 2009).

In my research, I work towards a better theoretical understanding of elementary particle physics, classical and quantum gravity, and cosmology. Most of my research has focused on string theory, quantum field theory, and the remarkable equivalence between the two suggested by gauge theory/ gravity duality (a.k.a. the AdS/CFT correspondence). Currently, I am exploring connections between quantum information theory and quantum gravity, and using string theory (specifically gauge theory / gravity duality) to learn about strongly interacting quantum field theories similar to QCD. You can find my publications here.

My research group includes postdocs (shared with the rest of the string theory group):

Anindya Mukherjee
Pallab Basu
Klaus Larjo
Thomas Levi
Joshua Davis
Bartek Czech

graduate students:

Kevin Whyte (PhD)
Hamed Karimi (Masters)

and an undergraduate:

Farzin Barekat (Honours thesis)
