As of January 17, 1995, we have only 3 rooms left for the conference.
They will be released from our block on January 20, so if you intend
to come to this conference, please register asap, or you won't have
a room at the Chateau.
The 1995 Western Regional Nuclear and Particle Physics Conference (WRNPPC),
organized by University of British Columbia, will be held at the Chateau
Lake Louise from Friday evening, February 17 through Sunday noon,
February 19. This conference is followed by the Lake Louise Winter
Institute (LLWI) from February 19-25/95. The theme for this year's
Lake Louise Winter Institute
is QUARKS AND COLLIDERS. The WRNPPC and LLWI are separately organized,
you must submit a separate application form to each.
The WRNPPC is intended to provide a forum where work in subatomic physics
in Western Canada can be presented and discussed in a pleasant, relaxed
atomosphere. In addition to the eight invited speakers below, we
encourage members of the nuclear and particle physics community, (both
theory and experiment) to submit an abstract for a 10 minute talk; we
have time slots reserved for 26 submitted talks. This has traditionally
been a conference where graduate students and young postdoctoral physicists
contribute significantly to the sessions. Please especially encourage and
support your young colleagues to come and present their research. There are
no written/published proceedings for this conference. As in past years, a
prize sponsored by the Nuclear Physics division of CAP will be
awarded for the best contributed talk. The value of the prize has just this
year been increased to $150.

Nobel Laureate, Dr. Richard Taylor, SLAC/U Alberta - Electron Scattering from HEPL to H1

Dr. Bruce Campbell, U Alberta - Particle Physics and Cosmology

Dr. Bill Cummings, TRIUMF - Measuring the Weak Pseudoscalar
Coupling Using Polarized Muonic 3He.

Dr. William Falk, U Manitoba - Investigation of (p,d pi+)
Reaction in the Quasi-Free Region.

Dr. Margret Fincke-Keeler, U Victoria - The LEP Collider and Physics at
the Z0.

Dr. Kara Keeter, SAL - New results for the Reaction
p(gamma,pi0)p at Threshold.

Dr. Anne Trudel, SFU/TRIUMF - The HERMES Experiment:
Unravelling the Origins of the Nucleon's Spin.

Dr. Chris Waltham, UBC - The Sudbury Neutrino Observatory:
Physics 2km Underground.
Four conference sessions are planned:
- Friday and Saturday evening sessions 19:30-22:30
- Saturday and Sunday morning sessions 8:30-12:15,
- Saturday afternoon is free for recreation/skiing/discussion.
Registration will take place Friday afternoon, 16:00-18:00.
A small reception will be held Friday evening, after the first evening
session.
EPILOGUE: (added after conference)
- The conference went well, 39 physicists participated.
Congratulations go to graduate students Mohammed Kermani and
Makoto Fujiwara, for each winning a $75 prize for best student
contributions. Mohammed is a UBC graduate student working on the
CHAOS experiment at TRIUMF, and Makoto is a UBC graduate student
on the muon-catalyzed fusion experiment, also at TRIUMF.
