Mice cannot be infected with HIV, but it is possible to immunize them with foreign lymphocytes. It is reported in this paper that such "alloimmune" mice make anti-HIV antibodies, even though they have never been exposed to HIV.These mice also make anti-anti-MHC antibodies ("MHC-image"), as was shown our work on second symmetry, see paper 25. Here it is further shown that a strain of mice that have a lupus-like disease make both anti-HIV and anti-anti-MHC antibodies. These are precisely the two forms of immunity that had been postulated to be important in the pathogenesis of AIDS.
