Mark attaches the sun shield "chin".

Barth and Marie (partially hidden) install the flight batteries.

Jeff gets checked out on the scissor lift, so that we can hold a dewar
of liquid nitrogen in the beam as far away as possible.
Mark and Jeff measure the height of the extended lift.

Barth receives some pretty flowers from Mark. Looks like he forgot to
water them, though.
Mark performs an indoor nitrogen-in-beam test. This is when we first
discovered that something was not at all right.
A more direct test.
Testing the primary coverage.

A jury-rigged chopper. Liquid nitrogen is put in the styrofoam cup,
which sits behind a rotating blade. The blade blocks the nitrogen from
the detectors, so that the cold signal turns on and off repeatedly.
Ed, Don, and Jeff watch liquid helium boil off as it is purged from
the dewar.
Still purging.
