The Kiruna mine, with a local commuter kind enough to add foreground interest
to my picture.

Marie cables one of the GPS antennas.
Matt and Barth spray paint the pivot shelf,
since it will be exposed to the Sun, and would become very hot if left
bare. The paint allows the metal to radiate away the heat.
Close-up of Matt in mid-spray.
Jaspaul attaches aluminized mylar to the back of the primary, to
shield it from the hot electronics that will soon be mounted on the
inner frame.
Clearly an unintensional shutter release, although I don't remember it
happening. I thought I'd include it just for fun.
Machines playing tug-of-war with a very thick rope. I didn't stick
around to see who won.
Getting ready to transfer liquid helium for the first time (in
Kiruna).
Marie doing her impression of Mark removing a star camera, while Marco
day-dreams.
Reverse angle.
Mark and Matt about to transfer.
Matt has passed the fill line over to Greg.
Liquid helium collecting in the reservoir.
About to remove the fill line. The icy tube in the foreground is the
exhaust from the helium tank, and runs out the window in order to avoid
collecting helium in the lab. A build-up of helium near the cryostat would
interfere with leak detection.

Jeff's hands would be numb from the cold, if he wasn't a robot.
Matt is entranced by the pretty plume.

Hotell Dagobert, our modular home away from home. Having not lived in
a dorm for several years, it's quite a treat to relive the communal
lifestyle.
Dagobert is the low-rent option at Esrange, but you wouldn't know it
from the ornate entranceway. Each room, along
with the one across the hall, is a separate section. The sections are
patched together to simulate a normal building. Amusingly, they
assembled it incorrectly, and rooms 31/32 are between 37/38 and 39/40.
Lunch at the Dag.
Each room is a spacious 96 square feet (Mark won the square foot
pool).
Presumably some rooms are tidier than mine.
At least we have our own bathrooms.
Matt checks on his laundry. No, it's not done yet. Come back in a few
hours. Note, in the foreground, the beautiful door labels Matt made
for us.
Our shared kitchen.
I have a very similar picture to this one
from a dorm I used to live in, except in that one the enormous pile of
dishes is in the sink instead of the drying rack, and the dishes are
dirty instead of clean.
