Stochastic processes in physics
Spring 2003
Birger Bergersen
I am preparing for this course not
knowing who my audience would be.This is a “good news, bad news” situation. The
bad news is that I have not been able to prepare as much as I probably should.
The good news is that there is a great deal of flexibility with regards to
material. Click here
for a “menu” of possible topics. The list is too long for there to be room for
all topics, so we will have to make a selection. Because of the variety of
topics there is no single book that covers everything. I have included pointers
to reading material for most of the topics.
Course
organization: There will be
approximately 6 assignments relating to the lecture material. At the end of the
term students registered in the course must prepare a term project. You will be
asked to make an oral presentation to the class of your results and also
prepare a written report. The written report should be in a form suitable for
posting on the web.
I plan to post as many as
possible of the lectures on the web. This task is made
somewhat easier by the fact that many of the lectures from a previous version
of the course already have been posted.
